A Brief History of What a Load of Rubbish

The company was set up in 1991: we started out with just a single 3.5 tonne truck and one labourer. By 1997 our business was becoming well established, and we recruited three new members to the team. Continued growth meant that in 1999 we purchased a new lorry; this time a 7.5 tonner.

In 2000, the business changed hands when the founder, Paul, emigrated to the US (where he now runs another successful rubbish business in Connecticut). Another driver and labourer joined the team, and in 2002 we acquired two more lorries in response to the economic boom which had increased demand for our services.

In 2005 Rob Anderson, who is now one of our directors, joined the team, and the following year we were joined by Pete Bailey who is now our Operations Manager. 2006 also saw the business change hands again when the owner, Steve, emigrated to Australia. At this point Saul – who has been with the company since the beginning – and Rob took the business over.

2007 was a difficult year in the waste industry. The pricing structure for rubbish changed from ‘per load’ to ‘per tonne’ which saw the cost of disposing of a load increase. Then Land Fill Tax was increased at around the same time as part of a general sea-change in the management of waste, with a recognition of the need for environmental responsibility and more efficient recycling.

The company continued going from strength to strength, but in 2009 the global economic downturn had a huge impact on our industry. Nevertheless we’ve continued to work hard through the difficult economic climate, taking on more staff and increasing our capacity to help the businesses and householders of London manage their rubbish!
